Our client is an international organisation, supplying its products to a range of industries across the globe. The rapid growth of the business has resulted in the creation of the exciting new role.
The Role:The main purpose of the role is to develop and manage all commercial activities relating to the growth of the ‘Energy’ division, from a standing start to a significant global player, in an optimum period of time. To achieve this, entrance will need to be gained into the Petrochemical, LNG, CNG, Nuclear and Power Generation markets using existing products. Will also need to penetrate, and develop opportunities, in Renewable, Tidal, Marine Energy, Gas Storage, Windmill and Solar Plant sectors. The initial targets will be businesses based in the UK but will quickly need to exploit the emergent demand throughout the world.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:- Produce a sales & marketing strategy & plan(s), which will achieve the overall aim of the business, in accordance with the direction of the Board.
- Grow the New Energy sales turnover from €0 to at least €20 million by 2016.
- Obtain best possible margins whist remaining competitive.
- Maximise sales and profit opportunities within the above specified markets with existing products.
- Build up sales in the UK in the short term then expand throughout the global market.
- Generate a budget that will achieve all sales targets and margins whilst controlling all costs.
- As growth increases, build an appropriate sales infrastructure to satisfy business and ‘local’ needs without unnecessary expenditure.
- Implement a marketing plan that will determine what products or services may be of interest to customers and the strategy to use in sales, communications & business development.
- Through successful marketing, identify, satisfy and keep the customers.
- Use market intelligence to maintain a full awareness of all potential opportunities in the market place.
- Increase the ‘New Energy’ brand in the most suitable ways to match the product with the market.
- Create and maintain robust commercial relationships with key contacts in all of the main ‘New Energy’ sectors.
- Communicate regularly with customers to provide a professional, highly credible service that will put the business in ‘pole position’ for further opportunities.
- Negotiate and develop commercial terms with customers, which also satisfy the Company’s strategy and plans.
- Continuously seek to identify business development opportunities in both new and existing customers.
- Monitor selling price, cost price, margin, turnover and market share, relating to specific customers.
- Achieve global targets with the aim of exceeding budgets.
- Involve and co-ordinate all relevant internal resources to ensure best possible performance levels in meeting customer requirements.
- When in place, manage the sales team well and communicate regularly so that they are well motivated to achieve all targets.
- Ensure timely and accurate responses to customer enquiries.
- Liaise with internal departments with reference to customer concerns/business opportunities.
- Work closely with the appropriate personnel of other Divisions to make certain performance is on track.
- Complete reports in accordance with Company procedures and business requirements.
- Attend appropriate Management Team meetings and operate as an integral part of the group.
The ideal candidate will meet the following criteria:- A very strong team player who can make significant contributions to small, tight knit groups.
- Extensive global experience in a similar role, preferably in Petrochemical or LNG or CNG or Power Generation, with a demonstrable track record of selling engineered metal products.
- Exposure to other Alternative/New Energy sectors (listed above), in addition to the above, would be a clear advantage.
- With all of the above, experience of growing a business from scratch to a substantial, profitable concern, would be perfect.
- Will have an Engineering background with a relevant Degree.
- Vast commercial knowledge in the area of metal products.
- Able to make a substantial contribution to the profitability and growth of a business.
- High level of business acumen preferably with an MBA qualification.
- Proven track record of successful marketing management and tangible outcomes.
- Excellent communicator with outstanding influencing and negotiating skills.
- Very Confident, self motivated and extremely driven to succeed.
- Highest level of customer focus, with experience in dealing with customers in very senior roles.
- Exceptional current network of relevant contacts in the New Energy, Petrochemical industry that will enable the business to get off to a flying start.
- Able to build and maintain strategic relationships through a natural talent for productive networking cross organisational, the customer base and potential business opportunities.
- Will be a task obsessed individual, with the attitude and passion to force tasks through to completion in the shortest possible time.
- Ability to continuously improve by seeking new approaches, generation of ideas & the determination to secure business advantage from such initiatives.
- High degree of honesty and integrity.
- Very competent at dealing with internal suppliers and their respective issues.
- Can provide direction to the business & the team.
