Lead Engineer

Our client is an international organisation, supplying its products to a range of industries across the globe. The rapid growth of the business has resulted in the creation of this exciting new role.

KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage and implement any special engineering projects that will be defined and agreed.
  • Full responsibility for the Technical Management of key customer accounts for ‘special’ products.
  • Co-ordinate & motivate team to ensure key tasks are achieved in line with project timing.
  • Liaise with customers, build and maintain relationships to provide a professional and credible service.
  • Provide technical expertise and support for project team, customer and suppliers where necessary.
  • Liaison with customer concerning special engineering related issues.
  • Proactively identify potential constraints, by planning and scheduling the availability of the necessary resources to ensure the smooth running of the project.
  • Ensure mechanical designs are provided, that meet customer requirements and international objectives.
  • Provide technical mechanical calculations and applicable design codes
  • Initiate and develop feasible, cost effective and reliable mechanical designs from concept through to production.
  • Participate and contribute to design and feasibility reviews with customers, suppliers and the Vector team.
  • When necessary, produce 3D CAD models, schemes, drawings and documentation as necessary to support duties above.  Documentation includes drawings, BOMs, Part Numbers, Change Notes, etc.
  • Provide ongoing support for current special engineering projects.
  • Produce detailed plans for the Project Team as required and ensure that all ‘milestones’ are achieved within the stipulated timescales.
  •  Actively participate in Enquiry and Contract Review Meetings to ensure that quotes are realistic and ensure that all agreed targets are met or recovery plans achieved as required.
  • To develop creative working practices in a bid to support the manufacturing facility and assist with day-to-day production issues (i.e. NCR’s).
  • Prepare material specifications and other technical support documents necessary to achieve on-time production.  This will include preparation of and checking of drawings and calculations.
  • To control the engineering requirements for regular ‘Special’ orders and projects from new and established customers involving orders of high value, often incorporating many different specifications.
  • Liaise with the relevant functions to make sure that all necessary accurate information is obtained so that exact customer requirements can be realistically engineered quickly.
  • If necessary, work with suppliers and sub-contractors to fully satisfy the needs of the order.
  • Make sure all relevant equipment and tooling is available to complete the job.
  • Hold review meetings, ensuring that all actions are complete in line with the requirements.
  • Make sure that the correct information is passed to the appropriate departments and technical specifications are verified.
  • Preparation of any necessary dossiers/documentation.
  • Ensure that all information is given and received to and from relevant parties, including suppliers and sub-contractors, on a timely basis.
  • Provide a Status Report with summary sheet indicating weekly progress, any areas of concern and the plan for the coming week as required.
  • Produce necessary management reports that enable pro-active control of the function and enable clear understanding of progress by senior management.

PERSON PROFILE

  • Minimum HNC Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Experience of working in a progressive manufacturing/engineering environment.
  • Must have extensive product designed experience with a number of those years within the manufacturing/engineering industry.
  • Must have extensive 3D CAD experience.
  • Experience of leading a department and managing a number of engineers including all                                                                                                                                                                                                
  • Must be customer focused, placing customer satisfaction high on list of priorities having a sound appreciation of the current and future requirements of internal and external customers.
  • Able to demonstrate the ability to be open minded and proactive in their approach to design and dealing with others.
  • Is able to initiate action to develop better ways of working, using past experience and any mistakes as positive opportunities for improvement
  • Must have sound business acumen, with the ability to make a positive contribution to the profitability of the business.
  • Able to take effective decisions and to work within tight deadlines.
  • Able to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals and groups selecting the most appropriate method i.e. written, oral etc.
  • Able to fully participate in cross-functional project teams.
  • Ensures that all stipulated timings are achieved on or before target.
